Is there a difference between giving thanks for what one receives and showing
graitude?
From Katherine Nyborg, Votary in the Lyceum of the Eclectic Rose:
What a fabulous question!! For me, the answer is "Sometimes."
But often I think that gratitude is a state of being, during which you may feel moved to give thanks. Sometimes, though,
the gratitude is so profound, that you're whole being gives thanks through the gratitude ... there's no need for words, or
acts because your essence is an act of grace.
From Siti:
The question was powerful and appropriate. Often we hear something repeatedly but do not really delve into the true meaning
of a saying. I once asked myself that very question and it wasn't until I felt gratitude in my whole being that I understood.
When I am in a state of gratitude I also notice that I am in a heightened sense of joy and thanks giving radiates from me
verbally and nonverbally.
From Deena Butta, AU:
gratitude is a way of life...it is the way to life and to living. Gratitude is the realization with
our whole being of the whole gift of life, with all its goods, bads, ups, and downs.
gratitude is what makes the universe go around. Gratitude is what creates energy flow. Gratitude activates
multiple additional dimensions to whatever we focus on. Gratitude raises the vibratory level around us.
when we are grateful for EVERYTHING, whether we asked fo it or not, whether we wanted it or not, we acknowledge our trust
in deity, and we open our ability to grow and to receive more...and this opens the door to more gratitude....
gratitude acknowledges that we are receiving what we need, which may not be what we want, and that it is a divine gift.
gratitude as a way of life is our communication with deity that we value our life in all its complexity, that we value
what IS.
when we are grateful for the bad along with the good, it allows us to embrace the difficult lessons sent our way more
easily and with less resistance, because we have already opened our hearts...and this allows us to transmute things
of a lower vibration to that of a higher vibration.
sometimes it is difficult to find it in our hearts to be grateful....but in the stillness of our own hearts, our
heart will speak to us and offer us guidance. There does not have to be a reason for gratitude, other than that life...ALL
of life... is a gift from the goddess.
Thank you to Katherine, Siti and Deena for their offerings about the act of gratitude.
When we begin living our lives according to the Ideals of Ma'at, we find that a whole new world opens
up for us....by learning to include gratitude as part of our everyday life....both physical and spiritual...we walk with grace.
