Poem from Hathor
As Brought Through by K. Matthew Bearden, Adept
Iseum of Aradia, Iseum of Apollo and Artemis
Lyceum of Hathor of the Ten Houses
Editors' Note: Matthew sent this poem in two different versions, offering us a choice of
which one to use in this issue. Instead, the Mirror of Isis Staff elected to present both versions. The first one
is written down as it came through direct divine inspiration to Matthew during his work. The second is the same poem
offered with Qabalistic correspondences.
A 'Poem from Hathor' in exactly the way it came through Matthew:
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are good indeed.
The milk from your breasts creates the stars.
You are the nurturer and sustainer of all life.
You give of your gifts freely.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are terrible indeed.
You rule over all blood.
You regulate women's cycles.
You feast on the blood of the wicked.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are wise indeed,
With your sacred quill
You can bring any image into life.
You are the Mistress of the Song of Life.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are beautiful and brave indeed.
You look at yourself in your mirror
Without hesitation.
You have the courage to face yourself as you are.
Your image is beauty itself.
Within and without.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are powerful indeed.
You are in the sistrum
From whence you drive away all evil
And further the good.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are brave indeed.
You are the Eye of Ra,
Who brings him back his children.
You are on the forehead of Ra,
You, O sacred serpent.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are supreme indeed.
You are the self-created.
We honor you at noon
As you pass over us in the sacred boat.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are merry indeed.
You shower those who follow you
With the sacred cup
Of the wine of Life.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are mysterious indeed.
You know the names.
You know the sacred names.
You know all that is concealed.
All things begin and end with your mysteries.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are kind indeed.
You guide souls to their proper places,
Both when they sleep,
And when they have passed from this sphere.
In your light, no soul can be lost.
You are the brightest of the bright beings.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are a mystery indeed.
You destroy and create
The entire universe
Infinite times every moment.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are sovereign indeed.
You are Goddess of the Sky.
You reign over the stars and moon.
Heaven is in the palm of your hands.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You who are the Mother of Mothers,
May your name be spoken only with respect
From true believers
Blessings on you through eternity.
Matthew writes: "What follows is my own additions to this same poem. You will notice
it is Qabalistic. That's the idea. When working with a Sphere or Path, an initiate may take months or years.
Hathor feels that she can expedite this process. This version is to be employed before Qabalistc
exercises - particularly rising on the planes and pathworking. Notice that it starts with Malkuth and goes all the way
through the Negative Veils. This progression confers spiritual attainment - the path of the serpent or magician.
If we were to reverse them, we would get the lightning strike of inspiration."
The same 'Poem from Hathor' presented with Qabalistic correspondences:
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are the Kingdom itself.
Water, fire, earth, air, and water
All express themselves through you.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are the foundation itself,
With your sacred quill,
You can bring any image into life.
You are the Mistress of the Song of Life.
O most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are glory itself.
You guide souls to their proper places,
Both when they sleep
And after they have passed from this sphere.
In your light, no soul can be lost.
You are the brightest of the bright beings.
O most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are victory itself.
You shower those who follow you
With the sacred cup of the wine of life.
O most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are beauty itself
Within and without.
You look at yourself in your mirror
Without hesitation.
You have the courage to face yourself as you are.
You give birth to the divine child
And sacrifice the king.
O most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are might itself.
You feast on the blood of the wicked.
You are in the sistrum,
From whence you drive away all evil
And further the good.
O most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are mercy itself.
You are the eye of Ra,
Who brings back his children
You are on the forehead of Ra,
You, O sacred serpent.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are understanding itself.
You are Goddess of the Sky
You reign over the moon and stars.
Heaven is in the palm of your hands.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are wisdom itself.
The milk from your breasts forms the stars.
You are the nurturer and sustainer of all life.
You give of your gifts freely.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are the crown itself.
You are the self created
We honor you at noon
As you pass over us in the sacred boat.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are knowledge itself,
You know the names.
You know the sacred names.
You know all that is concealed.
All things begin and end with your mysteries.
O, most holy Goddess Hathor,
You are the Veils themselves.
You destroy and create the entire universe,
Infinite times each moment.
O most holy Goddess Hathor,
You who are Mother of Mothers,
May your name be spoken only with respect
From true believers.
Blessings on you through eternity.
Open the gate for me.
Instruct the guardian to stand aside.
Give me dominion over the evil and unbalanced.
